Camber and Castor adjustment

The way the camber and castor adjustment works is it moves the kingpin angle.  More castor leans the kingpin back and makes the tyre jack into the ground harder when you turn the wheel, making it easier to lift the inside rear wheel when you are cornering.

Negative camber means the top of the front wheels are leaning into each other – you often see this in V8 Supercars.  Positive camber is the opposite, and means the top of the front wheels are leaning away from each other.  Some people run four degrees positive camber.

But castor is suited to the shape of the tyre.  Whenever the shape of the tyre is round, like Bridgestone YJB, you want to run zero castor and look towards negative camber.

When the tyre is square like the Dunlop SL5, you want to run more castor and positive camber.  You want to maximise the contact patch of the tyre on the road and use the whole tyre.
